The Cusco´s weather is relatively fresh. The temperature yearly fluctuates between the 10.3°C and the 13°C (among Fahrenheit 50.54° and 52.34°). There is some uniformity in the temperature between summer and winter. It is usually cold in the night and during the tomorrow's first hours it increases the temperature considerably until the noon. In the sunny days the temperature reaches the 20°C.

Cusco is under the macro-climatic influence of big masses of air coming from the south oriental forest, of the Plateau, and even of the distant region of Patagonia. The winds that arrive of the Peruvian-Bolivian plateau are rather colds and dry, the same as those that come from Patagonia, entering for the southeast area and that in general means climatic events of more scale.

On the other hand, the local winds that are generated in their valleys and in their plains have the function of distributing heat and humidity throughout the day. The winds of the south forest imply immense masses of air loaded with humidity that are impelled by the trade winds of the east.

The altitude in which is Cusco and its proximity to the equator generates a variety of climates in those that are distinguished two very defined seasons:

The season of rains starts from November to February or March. The stocking of the annual precipitations fluctuates among the 600 to 1000 mm.
The Dry season, from February or March until October. During the month of June the temperature frequently falls up to 5° or 7°C (23° or 19.4°F) and it can also reaches below zero.
Warm climates (humid and dry)
Humid Climates:

They correspond to the areas of low forest, so much to the north of the low Urubamba, like to the east of the department, in the entrance of the valleys Psicopata and Manu.

Precipitations:

More than 1,000 mm per year.

Temperatures:

  • Maxim: around 30°
  • Medium: between 23° and 25°
  • Minimum: around 20°

Dry weather:
The warm and dry weather, on the other hand, are given in the low yungas that appear, in form of canyons, in the basin of the river Apurímac, to the center and Southwest of the department.

Precipitations: Less than 500 mm per year.

Temperatures:

  • Maxim: up to 32°
  • Medium: between 17° and 18°
  • Minimum: up to 4.4°

Temperate climates (humid and dry)
Climates of the andean valleys that dominate the central area of the Cusco´s territory, where the difference in humidity is marked by the location in the slope. That is to say, the proximity to the east implies more humidity, while the proximity to the occident implies bigger dryness. The areas of temperate climate are of vital importance for the establishment of the populations.

Temperature:

  • Maxim: up to 29°
  • Medium: between 11° and 16°
  • Minimum: between 7° and -4°

Cold climates (humid and dry)
They are given, mainly, in the high areas of the valleys, in the punas and in the regions that surround the glaciers; that means, in areas that are above 4.200 meters.

Temperatures:

  • Maxim: up to 10°
  • Medium: they vary as the altitude.
  • Minimum: below 0°

Humidity: In the lowest section of the valley of Cusco there is an average of yearly humidity of 64%.
